Primary school pupils (9-10 years of age) visit a waste incinerator in Schwandorf (Germany). Before and during this visit the pupils learn about waste, waste reduction, recycling, energy in waste and technical aspects of the incinerator and turbine. The project includes working with computers, for example for finding data regarding the amount of waste produced by the community where the pupils live and for looking in the system of the incinerator to find out how much energy is gained from the waste. It is also set up to be enquiry based, including hands-on activities, for example for learning about different kinds of energy.
